Our students are excited to have Four Square courts back on our newly paved blacktop area! Thank you to Mrs. Burwell, Mrs. Moody and Mr. Atkins for helping to make this a reality! 🎉
Congratulations to Mrs. Zimmerman, kindergarten teacher, our SJES Employee of the Month. 🙌🏼💜 She was nominated by coworker, Mrs. Rouchard, for her patience and flexibility in supporting her students. Anyone who knows Mrs. Zimmerman knows that she goes above and beyond for every student. We are blessed to call her our colleague and friend! Congratulations! 🎉
#TGIF! JCS students across the district celebrated Red Ribbon Week with fun themes and activities related to this year's theme, "Be Kind to Your Mind." From "decade day" to "super training" their brains with crazy hairstyles to simply wearing as much red as possible, students had a great time showing their school spirit during this annual celebration of health and wellness!
Please feel free to come check out our 5th graders' artwork!
We’d like to thank the Cool Spring Nature Preserve for hosting our 2nd graders on an adventurous field trip, filled with snakes, turtles and exploring the great outdoors! What a magical combo—-7 year olds and nature!
Our Fall Fun Run is quickly approaching! On Tuesday, October 31st, our students will join together to “run” for a good cause: the support of our friend and PreK teacher, Mrs. Jamie Blake, who is heroically battling breast cancer, and for an opportunity to set physical fitness goals for ourselves. If you are so inclined, and would like to donate to our SJES Relay for Life team, in support of Mrs. Blake (and all other SJES community members affected by cancer), you can make checks payable to South Jefferson Elementary (we will accept cash donations, as well). This donation will go directly to the Jeff Co Relay for Life/American Cancer Society. Thank you!

Congratulations to fifth grader, Brooke Jenkins, on her Positive Principal Referral from our Art Educator, Mrs. Fiolek. Brooke was recognized for always assisting with keeping the art room organized, helping “to make the art room a better place”. Brooke makes South Jefferson a better place by being a responsible role model and leader! Awesome, Brooke! 💛💜

Jefferson County Schools appreciates everyone's hard work during the first nine weeks of the 23-24 school year. As we calculate final grades, we want to inform you about a change in schedule. Report cards will go home on Monday, October 30, 2023, NOT this Friday as previously planned. Grades will also be available in Canvas. We appreciate your patience while we ensure all grades have been assessed and calculated.
Jefferson County Schools invites you to an informational meeting on Oct. 23 about the Standard Response Protocol we use in our schools and ways you can support student safety at home. Lt. Ben Williams from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department will present the information and answer questions. The event takes place at 5:00 p.m. in the Washington High School auditorium. https://www.jcswv.org/events?id=23365841

Thanks to the JCS community for supporting our teachers and staff as they worked to learn new skills and classroom techniques on this day of staff development!
REMINDER: Tomorrow, Oct. 20, is a staff development day for Jefferson County Schools. There will be NO SCHOOL for students while our staff take advantage of training opportunities to continue supporting students. Thank you, and have a great weekend!
This is a reminder that Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, is a staff development day for Jefferson County Schools. Students will not be in school to provide our staff with training opportunities to help them continue serving kids. Thank you.
Today kicks off National School Bus Safety Week, an opportunity to focus on safe practices around school buses. We want to start by acknowledging the JCS bus operators, aides, mechanics, and transportation administrators responsible for safely transporting our students to and from school each day. These individuals are a direct link between the home and the classroom, and they play a pivotal role in the education and care of our students. Thank you to our Transportation team for keeping our kids safe on the road!
This awesome group of fifth graders was nominated for Positive Principal Referrals by Mr. Atkins because they voluntarily helped him assemble PE equipment, organize and put away equipment and clean up the area for the next group of students. Their kindness and willingness to help, without being asked, DEFINITELY deserved to be recognized. Thank you for helping others! Well done, Ryan Sheetz, Emma Larue, Louise Grantham and Dustin Welty!

It’s no wonder that Kennedy Lowery received a Positive Principal Referral from Mrs. Moody! Kennedy realized that younger students were trying to make their way to their bus at the end of the day. She paused, gathered them together and guided them to their bus safely, waiting for each student to board the bus. What leadership and kindness! Thank you, Kennedy, for being an exceptional role model for others!

Congratulations to kindergarten student, Landon Matchett, who was nominated by Mrs. Moody for a Positive Principal Referral. At the end of his special in Library, without being asked, Landon went around the library and straightened up the learning centers so that the next class could enjoy them. That is incredibly throughout, helpful and kind! We are so happy that Landon is part of the SJES team!
