Wesley Pauley is our latest recipient of a Positive Office Referral. Wesley was nominated by Mrs. Labrie after Wesley jumped right in to assist her when she was busy trying to accomplish a task. It’s moments like these, when you help others without being asked, that show who you really are as a person. Thank you, Wesley, for your kindness and help!

Douglas is a third grader here at South Jefferson Elementary. He has always loved playing outside, shooting basketball and throwing football. After many exams and tests at the Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., he was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Douglas was able to start treatments right away and is now in the second phase of treatment. We miss him terribly and are happy to be running for him and all the other children that get care at Children's National Hospital. #DouglasStrong

Who’s ready for more Positive Office Referrals???! I LOVE receiving these and sharing all of the positive and kind things that are happening at SJES. Congratulations to Victoria Bowman (4th grade) was nominated because she is ALWAYS willing to help others in class. A huge shout out to James Siddoway (2nd grade) for his quick problem-solving skills and leadership! Well done, Kyle McCampbell (3rd grade), for always being kind and respectful in class! Way to go, Bentley Duvall (3rd grade), for your work ethic and kindness. So proud of all of you and glad you are a part of the SHES family! 💛💜

These awesome 3rd graders were nominated by their teachers for their hard work in class, their compassion for others, the way that they show compassion for classmates and are such good friends to others. I’m super proud of these four students—their teachers selected incredible SJES role models! Well done, Violet, Marcus, Nathan and Hollie! 💛💜

We love visiting Orr’s Farm and pumpkin patch with our kindergarten students! It is always a fun day for them and creates such fun memories. Thank you to our K team for your organizing of the trip and for our parents who volunteered to chaperone! 🎃💜💛

Caroline Lutman, 4th grader at SJES, was nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Sunday, for always pitching in, to assist in the classroom, and for helping clean up after class activities. Thank you, Caroline, for demonstrating the qualities of good citizenship to others in our school! Well done! 💛💜

First grader, Mason Dunn, was nominated by fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Blank, for showing respect to our school. Mrs. Blank watched an entire line of other first graders step over or walk by trash on the playground. Mason was the only one to stop, pick it up and throw it away. At SJES, you never know who may be watching and recognizing your respect for our school. Way to go, Mason! 💜💛

Mrs. Fincham is blessed with two models of kindness and respect in her classroom: Brayden Jarvis and Annabelle Collins. Both were nominated by Mrs. Fincham for their manners, their gratitude for special treats and their kindness towards others that just comes naturally. Brayden jumps into action to help others with spills, always says “thank you” and Annabelle willingly gave up her sticker to a friend who lost their own. Thank you, Brayden and Annabelle, for showing others the art of gratitude and respect. 💛💜

Anyone that knows 5th grader, Troy Venable, knows what an awesome young man he is and today was no different. Troy was nominated by his teacher, Ms. Brooks, for always putting his best foot forward and for sharing his positive attitude with everyone. Troy, we are proud of you! Keep sharing your sunshine with others! 💜💛

Congratulations to fifth grader, Emileigh Wellman, for her Positive Office Referral from Ms. Brooks. Emileigh was nominated because she is always respectful, always chooses to do the right thing and shares kindness with others. Well done, Emileigh! 💜💛

We wanted to showcase an amazing group of students who are taking on leadership roles on the buses. We paired an older student with a younger student, who may be struggling with following the rules on the bus. These 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have helped us support better student behaviors on the bus and we are very proud and grateful for their assistance. Thank you, Solomon, Marian, Nathan, Briar, Erica, Koal, Addelyn and Lilith! Keep up the awesome work!

Ms. Mahoney & Mrs. Duggan

We have two superstars in Mrs. Snyder’s 4th grade class and just had to share! Ainye Taylor and Jaxon Jarvis were nominated by Mrs. Snyder, for their willingness to help keep their classrooms clean and for their kindness towards their fellow classmates and our school. They don’t wait for someone to ask for help—they jump right in and offer. That sounds like two very deserving Positive Office Referrals to me! So proud of both of them!

What a wonderful role model Laeliana Shifflett is at SJES! She was awarded a Positive Office Referral because she has been an exceptional student on the bus, even when there is chaos happening around her! While watching a bus video, Mrs. Duggan and Ms. Mahoney noticed Laeliana sitting quietly, following ALL the bus rules. She deserved to be recognized and celebrated! Well done, Laeliana! We are very proud of you!

Our 5th graders participated in the annual Schoolhouse Ridge field trip in Harpers Ferry. Schoolhouse Ridge was a witness to the Battle of Harpers Ferry, September 12-15, 1862. Confederate Commander Stonewall Jackson occupied the position on Schoolhouse Ridge, along with three divisions comprising nearly 15,000 men, during the Battle of Harpers Ferry. The National Park Service presents an immersive experience for our students, with information on the Calvary, hospital camps and the surrender of the Union troops at this site, right in our back yard. Our students had a fantastic time!

Miss Marian Neely was awarded a Positive Office Referral for her perseverance, hard work and responsibility as a student. Way to be a positive and inspiring role model, Marian—your hard work is paying off!! Super proud that you are a South Jefferson Roadrunner! 💜💛

Fourth graders Elaina Kline and Kanye Jones were nominated for Positive Office Referrals. Kanye was nominated by Ms. Brooks for his respectful and kind demeanor and for working hard every day. Elaina was nominated by Mrs. Sunday for helping to clean up after her class worked on salt dough maps. She pitched in right away and cleaned, without being asked. Both are awesome role models for all of SJES!

Ms. Potts’ 1st graders learned about the /ch/sound and made a "Ch"oo "Ch"oo train”around the room to reinforce the use of the sound. Movement, fun and learning all “engineered” into their day? Awesome!

Mrs. Sunday and Mrs. Snyder’s 4th grade classes worked on salt dough relief maps of West Virginia this week. An authentic “hands on” experience, in developing understanding of the topography of our beautiful state.

Congratulations to 5th graders, Zaedrian Sinclair and Robert Miller, for their Positive Office Referrals! Zaedrian was nominated by Mrs. Burwell for being such a respectful and caring citizen at SJES, helping out when needed and without being asked. Robert was nominated by Ms. Brooks for working hard in class and giving his all towards his schoolwork. Well done!!

Kindergarten creative play and problem solving help to create a solid foundation for future academic success. Our kindergartners are having a blast this year! Those smiles say it all!
