Our fourth grade classes wrapped up their study of the Middle Ages with a Renaissance Festival at SJES. The students rotated through stations, trying their hand at archery, jousting, spear-throwing, checkers and Lego castle-building. Thank you to our fourth grade team, our parent volunteers and the Jefferson County Parks and Rec for bringing the Middle Ages and our festival to life for our students.
American Education Week wrap up: SJES Spirit Day! We love our school! 💜💛🥳
A yearly tradition at SJES: three fourth grade students are selected (one from each class) to help decorate the tree at United Bank, one of our business partners. This year, Zoey Traywick, Koal Cook and Emileigh Wellman were selected by their teachers to bring the holiday spirit to the bank’s tree, just in time for the upcoming Christmas parade. A huge thank you to our classes for creating beautiful ornaments for the tree! What a fun tradition! 🎄💜💛
American Education Week: We “tipped our hats” to someone who impacted us/our educational journey.
Hat day at SJES! 🧢👒🎩🪖
American Education Week: “Education is Teamwork” jersey day!
A Positive Office Referral was presented to Violet Rawlings for the way that she helped a friend through a rough time. She is always sweet, helpful and kind! Well done, Violet!
When you look up the word “kindness”, you will see Kennedy Carroll’s picture. Kennedy knew that her class would welcome a new student this week so she brought in a card for all of her classmates to sign, to welcome him to SJES. His face, when he opened that card, was priceless. Thank you, Kennedy, for reminding us to be welcoming and kind and for being an exemplary role model. You definitely have earned a Positive Office Referral! 💜💛
JCS Families: All JCS schools will be closed from Monday, November 25th to Friday, November 29th for Fall Break. Students will return on Monday, December 2nd. Have a wonderful Fall Break!
Future Miss West Virginias. 👑 Thank you, Demi Breeden, for sharing your day with us! We’re very proud of your accomplishments! #SJESAlumni
Our Career Day was a wonderful experience for our students and we would like to thank each of our volunteers for their time with us. We had so many interesting careers shared, from medical professionals to vets to law enforcement to linemen to to pilots to pharmacists to firemen to photographers to Miss West Virginia to groomers and hair stylists and so much more! What a day!
Our students, along with the supervision of our Healthy Choice Ambassadors, welcomed members from the 167th Airlift Wing-West Virginia Air National Guard, to hand deliver our donated Halloween candy to the “Treats for Troops” program. The group’s mascot, Thunder, came along and our guests talked to the HCA members about their jobs on the base. It was an awesome day and a wonderful way to express our gratitude for our service members. Another moment of kindness at SJES! 💜💛
Our 5th grade Safety Patrols were “sworn in” today by Chief Gillenwater, our Air National Guard mentor. Congratulations to Tyler Trauger, Mia Vigil, Harlynn Yowell, Mikayla Keller, Julian Membreno-Ramirez, Chase Viands, Damien O’Banion, Kennedy Lowery, Violet Shay, Isabelle Friend, Sabina Titus, Jace Moreno, Mayra Zepeda and Henry Solich (not shown). Our newest patrols were given proper flag instruction by Chief Gillenwater and reviewed their upcoming assignments. Each student completed an application, writing an essay on why they would make a good patrol and were selected for responsible behaviors, hard work, respect and kindness. We are in good hands at SJES.
Congratulations! Super proud of you! 💜💛
Ms. Mahoney
Our third graders have been hard at work, researching and classifying animals. They conducted research and shared facts with one another as a culminating activity of their unit of study. Well done, 3rd grade!
Second grade had a blast with Mrs. Johnson, parent and 4-H/Youth Development Agent with the WVU Extension Service. They designed their own robots, utilized spherobots and learned to code with them, which allowed them to “move” their robot designs in the robot ring. They were able to troubleshoot, make adjustments and learn from their coding errors or assumptions. Having fun while learning to problem solve? Sounds awesome to me!
Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for always supporting SJES!
Our kindergarten classes wrapped up their study on farms with a visit from the Rawlings family. Thank you to this amazing community partner (and SJES family) for their continued support of our students and school. You are awesome!
Congratulations go to Trevor Trauger for his Positive Office Referral. Trevor was nominated because he is always so kind and respectful in class. Thank you, Trevor, for being an awesome example for all of us at South Jefferson! 🎉

More inflatable run photos from our Fun Run! We're "stomping out MS" at SJES!
What a day! ☀️
Our annual Fun Run was held today, celebrating our favorite PE Educator, Mr. Atkins, and other brave warriors fighting Multiple Sclerosis. The weather was perfect and our students were ready to run! 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️
We kicked off the day with a celebration we have been planning since the summer—-a staff inflatable run! We haven’t laughed this much in a while! I adore this staff and their willingness to have a good time and to show our students how to have fun even when facing challenges.
Grade level Fun Run photos and an update on the amount we raised for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation to come soon!
Ms. Mahoney
Today is our FUN RUN for Mr. Atkins and those struggling with Multiple Sclerosis! Even a dollar is going to help today! I can’t wait for our school to make a generous donation in Mr. Atkins’ name to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation! Thank you for your support and for shining a light on MS and for honoring this incredible warrior! Let’s do this, South Jefferson!
