Spirit Days are so much fun at SJES!
Thank you to Chief Master Sargent Gillenwater, mentor and friend to SJES, for teaching our safety patrols about flag protocol and the proper way to handle our flags. We are grateful for him and are ready to tackle this new responsibility.

Feldman, Morgan Marshall, Isabella Fote, Mia Batista, Louise Grantham, Lizzy Bowman, Erich Fennell, Troy Fultz, Lizzy Tuitele, Ella White, Jaxson Rice, Wyatt Truitt, Avonlea Belland and Layla Bates. We want to give a huge shoutout to our substitute teachers and service personnel on Substitute Educators Day! These members of our JCS community play a crucial role in the continuity of daily education by stepping in at a moment's notice to provide school or district-wide coverage wherever it's most needed. They are talented and adaptable individuals who are relied upon by administrators, teachers, and students. We're so grateful to all our subs for their important contributions to our educational community. Thank you! Interested in subbing for JCS? Visit www.jcswv.org/careers to learn more and begin your application!
Mrs. Mangum’s 3rd grade class showcased their animal research for each other—-well done, everyone! Walking through the 3rd grade wing is like being in a museum.
Mrs. Siddoway’s PreK class has been learning all about bread. To celebrate Rainbow Day, they expressed themselves with color and creativity—-ta da! Rainbow Bread Art! 🫶🏼🌈
American Education Week continues with a shoutout to our amazing team of service personnel! These folks hold a special place in our JCS community as they work to keep our students safe, healthy, and focused. We're grateful for the many different ways they support our students.
As American Education Week continues, we're proud to acknowledge the vital role families and the greater community play in the lives of our students. To that end, South Jefferson Elementary School celebrated #AEW23 with Career Day. Members of the SJE community talked to students about their jobs, including Bud Herndon, a fire investigator and K9 handler, who brought along a furry friend! 🦮🐾 Other professions represented included law enforcement, farming, commercial photography, engineering, HVAC repair, data analytics, financial services, massage therapy, the sciences, and different branches of the U.S. military. Thank you to everyone who participated for taking this time to support our students and their education!
Today, we held our Career Day, in conjunction with our students “dressing for success” or as their future careers. What an awesome day, planned by our Special events committee at SJES. Well done!
Have you completed the Parent Learning Environment survey yet???
I have received 100 orange papers back, putting the first graders in the lead for an extra recess! My goal is to have at least 200 parents/caregivers who have completed the survey. (If you lost the paper, let me know—-I can get you the link. If you did the survey and can’t find the paper, you can send me a note stating that you completed it. It all counts!)
Thank you for taking the time to help us! Deadline is Friday, November 17th at 4 pm.

As we kick off American Education Week, we're excited to highlight and celebrate the incredible people in our JCS community who contribute to public education! Our staff, students, and families are the heart of our community, and we're grateful to each of you for your role in creating and maintaining a safe, enriching, and fun learning environment. Keep an eye out this week for #AEW2023 celebrations throughout our JCS community!
Remember: this upcoming week is American Education Week! A great time to send a thank you note to a SJES staff member who has touched you or your children’s lives. You have no idea how much a note of thanks means.

Today we take time to recognize Veterans Day with respect, honor, and gratitude to all who serve or have served in our nation's armed forces. Thank you!
A reminder that all Jefferson County schools and offices will be closed on Friday, November 10, in observance of Veterans Day.
Our 5th graders worked together, as part of their unit of study of the properties, structures, and interactions of matter as well as the basics of the language of chemistry, to separate matter (sand, gravel and ball bearings) using a magnet, spoon and a sieve.
Thank you to the Rawlings Family for your visit to South Jefferson’s Kindergarten classes on Friday! Who doesn’t love to see adorable baby goats and to take a picture with a cool green tractor!? This experience was a great hands on experience after our unit of study on farms.
