Thank you to Dr. Deborah Rochefort, who conducted a Colonial America presentation for our fourth grade students, made possible through a Jefferson County Landmark Commission Grant. She was dressed in period costume and taught the students about spinning wool, candle making and life in colonial America.

Congratulations to Isabelle Friend for receiving a Positive Office Referral! Isabelle was nominated because she assisted our art educator, Mrs. Fiolek, in the art room by washing up paint brushes and materials without being asked. She just did it out of the kindness of her heart! Way to be a helpful and kind Roadrunner, Isabel! Super proud of you! Ms. Mahoney 💜

Congratulations and good luck to the JCS students headed to the West Virginia Science and Engineering Fair on March 6! Students from South Jefferson Elementary, T.A. Lowery Elementary, Shepherdstown Middle, and Jefferson and Washington High Schools advance to the statewide competition following recognition at the Eastern Panhandle Science and Engineering Fair in February. Our Read Across America week continues with a “Reading Is Powerful” day! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s our super roadrunner readers! 🎉📚🦸🏽‍♀️🦸🏼🦸🏻‍♂️

We celebrated Rare Disease Day by wearing stripes, showing how we are all unique in our own way. Did you know that twenty-five million people are diagnosed with a rare disease in America?? By learning about rare diseases, we show compassion and empathy for others. #ReadAcrossAmericaWeek

Our “Reading is Cozy” day was a huge success! Reading is fun, but reading in your snuggly pajamas is even better. Reading to your favorite stuffed animal or reading by lantern light only adds to the fun! #ReadAcrossAmericaWeek 💜💛

Congratulations to Mrs. Sunday's 3rd grade writing club---they have worked on this writing project for 2 months to plan, draft, edit/ revise and publish a short story. Well done!

Congratulations to Douglas Hare on his Positive Principal Referral today! Douglas was an awesome friend and great example for others and we are super proud of him! 💜 Ms. Mahoney

Mrs. Fox’s kindergarten class had a blast today using magna tiles in their classroom! The first group of students constructed a design out of the mini magna tiles. The second group had to mimic what the first group made with medium sized magna tiles and the third group had to copy with the extra large magna tiles. This activity and exploration aligned great with our kindergarten standards for composing bigger shapes from smaller shapes because the students had to problem solve if they didn’t construct the correct shape. What a cool learning experience!

Congratulations to Evan Henshaw and Hattee Lafferty for their Positive Principal Referral nominations! Evan went above and beyond to assist a substitute and Hattee made good choices in class. Super proud of both of you! 💜 Ms. Mahoney
