Congratulations to fifth grader, Tyson Stuntz, for earning a Positive Office Referral. Tyson saw that the hallway was a mess after recess with students tracking mud in from the playground (if you know, you know!). He took it upon himself to sweep the hallway at dismissal, as well as a fifth grade classroom! Well done, Tyson! We are super proud that you are a SJES Roadrunner! 💜 Ms. Mahoney (Photo by Jennifer Stuntz)

Congratulations to Hunter Micelli and Damien O’Banion for their Positive Principal Referral nominations. Damien was nominated for challenging himself in math and “asking for extra work” to hone his skills in math. Hunter was nominated for always helping out in the classroom “on his own” and supporting his classmates and teacher. Both excellent role models for all of us at South Jefferson! Well done, gentlemen! 💜 Ms. Mahoney

What a great day for South Jefferson at the Jefferson County Science Fair! Our students represented us well and did a phenomenal job in creating and presenting their projects. This was the first year that elementary students were invited to present at the County level. We placed from Honorable Mention to First Place in multiple categories and some will move on to the Regional Fair in a few weeks! Well done, South Jefferson! I am very proud of you and your accomplishments! 💜 Ms. Mahoney (Liam Stull, Louise Grantham, Spencer Devaney, Lilly Carter, Maddie Kline, Lizzy Bowman and Jovina Young)

Ms. Horne and Mrs. Bass’ kindergarten class began a new unit on Kings and Queens this week. Our kindergartners were officially declared “princes” and “princesses” and are learning about royal life through nursery rhymes and stories.

Because we held our SJES Winter White Out (and it was SO successful!), I wanted to remind our families about how to find out about school delays, school closures, etc. Just in case. 😉 Ms. Mahoney

If our “Winter Wonderland White Out” day is any indication, I believe we may be in for some snow days! We had EXCEPTIONAL participation and enjoyed the day together. Mrs. Fiolek had our students create wintry animals and snowy village scenes in art to help keep the snow day vibes going. ❄️☃️ Well done, South Jefferson!

Our fourth graders worked with Snap Circuits in our STEAM lab today. These tools teach basic engineering, electronics and circuitry concepts by assembling electronic circuits on a simple “rows-and-columns” base grid. The resulting projects function like the printed circuit board found in most electronic products. A fun and exciting day for our students to explore and learn together!
